The Doctor’s Orders have just announced a major double date in May with a head to head soundclash between two of hip hop’s biggest producers – Just Blaze and The Alchemist. This show took place last year at an East London location and for those that don’t know, the tickets flew off the shelf in record time, leaving many disappointed people out in the cold, begging for a place on the guestlist (and before you ask there isn’t one)!

So we’re very excited that they’re taking over the venue on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th May!

As an in house producer with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella records Just Blaze has made waves producing instant classics for Kanye West, Cam’ron, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and of course the man himself Jay-Z who has featured Just Blaze beats on 6 of his last 7 albums, all of which have gone platinum. And it would be wrong to not mention the incredible soundscapes he has created for Jay Electronica click here for a listen.

Having got his start in the production game under the wing of DJ Premier and DJ Muggs, The Alchemist  has made a name for himself for rough Boom Bap style hits. Through his work on albums for underground favourites Dilated Peoples (listen here) and Defari he came to the attention of Mobb Deep who chose two beats to feature on the classic Murda Muzik. His resume now reads like a who’s who of hip hop including work with Nas, Ghostface, Lil-Wayne, Emimen (for who The Alchemist is tour DJ), Big Pun, Fat Joe and Raekwon.

This is going to be big – here’s a taste of what’s to come:

Bump’s been going for just over a month now so here’s our top picks of some of the stylish people who’ve been making it down to show us what’s what…

To those that escaped our radar you need to jump in front of the camera next time – props to the girl in the red lycra and lippy last week, unfortunately no close ups!

The next event sees English perform live with DJ Snips and The Heatwave.

We are very excited to announce that one of our favourite producers, Kenny Dope will be joining us for a Jam Hot session on the 12th November!

We don’t need to tell you that Kenny ”Dope” Gonzales is one half of house music production and remix team Masters at Work. He has also put out a ton of hip hop records as Kenny Dope,  including 1994’s seminal  Pushin Dope’ EP.

For our session he will playing a Hip Hop set something he hasn’t done in London for more than ten years,  and it might be another ten before he agrees to do it again.  For full details check the facebook event here and grab the early bird tickets here.

To get you in the mood we have  picked one of our favourite house records and one of our favourite hip hop records from his huge back catalogue.

In the last year we have worked with some of the most interesting live promoters around,  programming an eclectic range of shows – from high profile U.S. acts to the best local talent around (and Brixton has its fair share).

Recent shows have featured the likes of Mad Professor, Drums Of Death, The Herbaliser, Ugly Duckling and Klashnekoff, to name just a few.

We have just confirmed a series of shows for our Autumn / Winter season, with the Dub Pistols confirmed for Thursday 28th October, another live showcase from local boys The Thirst on Thursday 4th November and a huge show with Def Squad member and 90s hip hop legend Keith Murray on Wednesday 24th November.

Watch this space for more announcements, including a Stones Throw Records showcase later in the year!!!

From now on Fridays will be going by the name Jam Hot.

Every week you can expect an across the board mix of hip hop (old and new), party jams, 2 step garage and dubstep.

In October we have the likes of Kon & Amir, Funkineven, Harry Love, DJ MK and Mr Thing, with support from some of London’s very best collectives (Bounty, Yo Mama, etc), a live broadcast for The Funhouse and at the end fo the month we have  a massive Deadly Rhythm Halloween special… with forward thinking dubstep and heavyweight bass from Swamp 81 boss Loefah, Werk boss Actress and South London’s answer to J Dilla – Morgan Zarate, as well as a live show from the Hyperdub signed Darkstar.

It is free entry every week until 10pm. Check the website for more info.

We were blown away when we saw Todd Terje play at the Red Bull Music Academy edition of Secretsundaze earlier in the year. This was partly due to the party being held at Paramount,  which is set on the 32nd floor of the Centre Point building on Tottenham Court Road, but also because the Norwegian disco boy wonder played an absoulute belter of a set.

Red Bull took the time to record the set (which from our recent experiences isn’t always the most straight forward thing to get right) and have made it available here.

Advance tickets for Todd Terje’s show at Plan B can be found here.
