This year we have seen big things from new night Jam Hot. Taking residency every Friday it promises good times with a mix of hip hop, party jams, 2 step and dubstep. Since its launch we have seen artists including; Kenny Dope, Darkstar (live), MK, Harry Love, Loefah, Mr Thing all take to the Funktion 1 soundsystem.

For the Jam Hot Xmas Special on Friday 3rd December we have invited back DJ Yoda with his crazy lights and smoke machines… oh and some serious party mixing – FEEL THE FORCE! If you saw him earlier this year at the venue, team Yoda were doing some over time on the effects (see image below).

Support comes from residents the Yo Mama boys, who have been holding down the first Jam Hot of the month with their dutty mix of hip hop, dancehall and baltimore breaks.

Limited early bird tickets went up this week so get in quick.

In celebration of the release of the incredible Suite For Ma Dukes, The Doctor’s Orders have put together a hefty line up of both Dilla associates and On The Real residents (all of whom are big fans of the legend).  The line up includes Elzhi, Phat Kat and DJ Dez (Slum Village), DJ 279 and Spin Doctor.

For those that don’t know, the Suite For Ma Dukes concert in LA was put together for the anniversary of the passing of Dilla in 2009. Click on the stills below for footage from that night with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 40-piece orchestra performing their re-imagining of J Dillas best known works at Luckman Fine Arts Plaza. Surprise guests throughout the night included Common, Talib Kweli and Posdnuous (De la Soul).

More video footage can be found here.

On The Real, Friday 19th November, tickets here.

Ahead of his UK debut at Plan B on Saturday 20th November, Detroit resident Marcellus Pittman put a mix together for our friends at Fact Mag this week. A somewhat mysterious figure, we’re given a unique insight into his gem-filled record box, with a studied blend of the cutting edge and the classic.

As a producer, Marcellus’ quality over quantity approach and colloborations with the likes of Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Omar S have rightly made him one of the most respected artists around.  No wonder he’s been invited by one of the UK’s most forward thinking labels – Joy Orbison owned Doldrums – to head up their return to Plan B.  The eclectic lineup also includes  new signing Braiden, as well as  Krystal Klear and Nookie, all on the brink of brand new releases.

Look out for some big announcements about this party over the next week! In the meantime switch on, sit back and enjoy some rare vinyl treats…

Some funky – some just plain freaky! Here are some of our favourite snap shots from the Halloween Community night with Basement Jaxx.

They’re not dressed up and it’s not the 80s but they deserve a place on the post for bringing good vibes and sporting a scrunchie…

Don’t let the sun go down…

So the nights are finally drawing in and it may feel like summer never happened… But don’t despair as on Saturday 6th  November Community welcomes Welsh wunderkind turned international trend-setter – Jamie Jones.

A true hero of underground house, Jamie has become the torchbearer for the new sounds of deep disco-infused house music. Just two weeks ago he was smashing the closing parties at the notorious Circo Loco (DC-10) and Space in Ibiza. We’ve managed to pin him down for a rare headline set in London.
Let’s hope he brings some of that Mediterranean sunshine with him!

Backing him up is Parisian upstart Le Loup, whose warm house productions earn’t him a seminal debut release on New York luminary label Wolf + Lamb.

Advance tickets for Jamie Jones’s show at Plan B can be found here.

Heres’ a classic tasty cut from Jamie and Wolf + Lamb boss Gadi Mizrahi to keep you warm in the meantime:

We are very excited to announce that one of our favourite producers, Kenny Dope will be joining us for a Jam Hot session on the 12th November!

We don’t need to tell you that Kenny ”Dope” Gonzales is one half of house music production and remix team Masters at Work. He has also put out a ton of hip hop records as Kenny Dope,  including 1994’s seminal  Pushin Dope’ EP.

For our session he will playing a Hip Hop set something he hasn’t done in London for more than ten years,  and it might be another ten before he agrees to do it again.  For full details check the facebook event here and grab the early bird tickets here.

To get you in the mood we have  picked one of our favourite house records and one of our favourite hip hop records from his huge back catalogue.

In the last year we have worked with some of the most interesting live promoters around,  programming an eclectic range of shows – from high profile U.S. acts to the best local talent around (and Brixton has its fair share).

Recent shows have featured the likes of Mad Professor, Drums Of Death, The Herbaliser, Ugly Duckling and Klashnekoff, to name just a few.

We have just confirmed a series of shows for our Autumn / Winter season, with the Dub Pistols confirmed for Thursday 28th October, another live showcase from local boys The Thirst on Thursday 4th November and a huge show with Def Squad member and 90s hip hop legend Keith Murray on Wednesday 24th November.

Watch this space for more announcements, including a Stones Throw Records showcase later in the year!!!
