The Doctor’s Orders have just announced a major double date in May with a head to head soundclash between two of hip hop’s biggest producers – Just Blaze and The Alchemist. This show took place last year at an East London location and for those that don’t know, the tickets flew off the shelf in record time, leaving many disappointed people out in the cold, begging for a place on the guestlist (and before you ask there isn’t one)!

So we’re very excited that they’re taking over the venue on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th May!

As an in house producer with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella records Just Blaze has made waves producing instant classics for Kanye West, Cam’ron, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and of course the man himself Jay-Z who has featured Just Blaze beats on 6 of his last 7 albums, all of which have gone platinum. And it would be wrong to not mention the incredible soundscapes he has created for Jay Electronica click here for a listen.

Having got his start in the production game under the wing of DJ Premier and DJ Muggs, The Alchemist  has made a name for himself for rough Boom Bap style hits. Through his work on albums for underground favourites Dilated Peoples (listen here) and Defari he came to the attention of Mobb Deep who chose two beats to feature on the classic Murda Muzik. His resume now reads like a who’s who of hip hop including work with Nas, Ghostface, Lil-Wayne, Emimen (for who The Alchemist is tour DJ), Big Pun, Fat Joe and Raekwon.

This is going to be big – here’s a taste of what’s to come:

The Doctors Orders are back with another fine line up for their first On The Real of the year on Friday 21st January. Not only have they bagged A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammand representing the golden era of hip hop but they also have a live PA from underground rising star – Homeboy Sandman. Underground hip hop movement End Of The Weak in NYC have been showing him a lot of love and with three albums under his belt  and The Source featuring him in their Unsigned Hype column as one to watch, this will be the perfect opportunity to see what he has up his sleeve.

Here his is on stage with Souls Of Mischeif, Rakim and Black Thought (The Roots)…

Download a free mix from Ali Shaheed here.

There are limited early bird tickets so get in quick.

The best thing about Xmas is all of the parties (+ all of the things your meant to say!). Not sure how it’s happened but suddenly it’s December, the snow is hitting hard and we have a hefty month of party pushing ahead. Our biggest hip hop party of the festive season, comes courtesy of The Doctor’s Orders and their monthly showdown – On The Real, with an Extended Players special on Friday 10th December.

The Extended Players AKA Mr Thing, MK and  Harry Love (and Shortee Blitz who is not around for this one) are a force to be reckoned with and they will be going at it crazy style with a rare six turntable, four hour set. The Extended Players are without a doubt one of the best (and most consistent) teams of turntablists out there.

In true Xmas spirit The Doctor’s Orders are offering up a wealth of free mixes and podcasts – click on the magic record case below for a taste of MK, Mr Thing and Spin Doctor…

Otherwise you can go straight to the Doctor’s Orders page.

…and to finish off the post, here is Harry Love in his kitchen having a scratch.

In celebration of the release of the incredible Suite For Ma Dukes, The Doctor’s Orders have put together a hefty line up of both Dilla associates and On The Real residents (all of whom are big fans of the legend).  The line up includes Elzhi, Phat Kat and DJ Dez (Slum Village), DJ 279 and Spin Doctor.

For those that don’t know, the Suite For Ma Dukes concert in LA was put together for the anniversary of the passing of Dilla in 2009. Click on the stills below for footage from that night with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 40-piece orchestra performing their re-imagining of J Dillas best known works at Luckman Fine Arts Plaza. Surprise guests throughout the night included Common, Talib Kweli and Posdnuous (De la Soul).

Way way back when in 1992, Diamond D released his magnus opus ‘Stunts Blunts & Hip Hop’ which along with work by the likes of Pete Rock pretty much established the blueprint for all that was to follow in the ‘golden era’ of hip hop.

The album featured early appearances from both Big L and Fat Joe, as well as additional production credits from Large Professor, Q Tip, Showbiz and The 45 King.

It is hard now to describe the excitement that preceded this release, but it was definitely one of the defining moments of the time. The UK release was delayed for some reason and a batch of white label bootlegs found there way into stores, which have only added to the album’s legendary status.

Diamond D plays a rare set and performs live at the next On The Real party on Friday 17th September 2010.
