JUST BLAZE VS THE ALCHEMIST x SOUNDCLASH

The Doctor’s Orders have just announced a major double date in May with a head to head soundclash between two of hip hop’s biggest producers – Just Blaze and The Alchemist. This show took place last year at an East London location and for those that don’t know, the tickets flew off the shelf in record time, leaving many disappointed people out in the cold, begging for a place on the guestlist (and before you ask there isn’t one)!

So we’re very excited that they’re taking over the venue on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th May!

As an in house producer with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella records Just Blaze has made waves producing instant classics for Kanye West, Cam’ron, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and of course the man himself Jay-Z who has featured Just Blaze beats on 6 of his last 7 albums, all of which have gone platinum. And it would be wrong to not mention the incredible soundscapes he has created for Jay Electronica click here for a listen.

Having got his start in the production game under the wing of DJ Premier and DJ Muggs, The Alchemist  has made a name for himself for rough Boom Bap style hits. Through his work on albums for underground favourites Dilated Peoples (listen here) and Defari he came to the attention of Mobb Deep who chose two beats to feature on the classic Murda Muzik. His resume now reads like a who’s who of hip hop including work with Nas, Ghostface, Lil-Wayne, Emimen (for who The Alchemist is tour DJ), Big Pun, Fat Joe and Raekwon.

This is going to be big – here’s a taste of what’s to come:

BUMP LAUNCH PARTY x FRIDAYS AT PLAN B

Remember the days when going out used to be fun? Music you knew, people you liked, that whole thing? These days it feels like the only choice for a night out is either an over priced West End club (complete with big scary bouncers and orange skinned WAGs), or that slightly pretentious thing the kids with funny hair do in East London. What happened to getting your drink on at your local spot and skanking out to your favourite tunes?

Well, we are bringing the fun back to South London, with our new weekly jam – BUMP! From the illest urban sounds, to proper old school music. From hip hop and R&B, to dancehall and dubstep, even a bit of house and garage!

Every week we will be doing something a bit different, with some of London’s best new artists, producers and DJs passing through over the coming weeks and months.

To start things off with a bump, we have invited the amazing Sophy Robson (Vogue Magazine) to do free nails for the girls (10pm to 12am) every Friday for the first month. We will also have loads of giveaways, surprise PAs and champagne raffles every week, because we’re nice like that.

9PM – 4AM / FREE BEFORE 10PM, £5 AFTER / FACEBOOK GROUP

Any discerning music fan couldn’t have missed the meteoric rise of post dubstep pioneer James Blake. The South London resident was responsible for some of the most forward thinking productions last year through trailblazing imprints such as R & S Records and Hessle Audio.

His highly anticipated album drops in February and to support the release James has prepared a full live band. Showcased will be his jazz, electronic and soul influences not to mention a stunning tenor voice, with its first unveiling here at Plan B on Friday 14th January.

As you can imagine this event has received some serious hype and has completely sold out, although there will be limited tickets on the door for £15. This is a live show so the doors will be opening earlier than usual at 8pm.

ON THE REAL x SUITE FOR MA DUKES

In celebration of the release of the incredible Suite For Ma Dukes, The Doctor’s Orders have put together a hefty line up of both Dilla associates and On The Real residents (all of whom are big fans of the legend).  The line up includes Elzhi, Phat Kat and DJ Dez (Slum Village), DJ 279 and Spin Doctor.

For those that don’t know, the Suite For Ma Dukes concert in LA was put together for the anniversary of the passing of Dilla in 2009. Click on the stills below for footage from that night with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 40-piece orchestra performing their re-imagining of J Dillas best known works at Luckman Fine Arts Plaza. Surprise guests throughout the night included Common, Talib Kweli and Posdnuous (De la Soul).

More video footage can be found here.

On The Real, Friday 19th November, tickets here.

MARCELLUS PITTMAN x FACT x DOLDRUMS

Ahead of his UK debut at Plan B on Saturday 20th November, Detroit resident Marcellus Pittman put a mix together for our friends at Fact Mag this week. A somewhat mysterious figure, we’re given a unique insight into his gem-filled record box, with a studied blend of the cutting edge and the classic.

As a producer, Marcellus’ quality over quantity approach and colloborations with the likes of Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Omar S have rightly made him one of the most respected artists around.  No wonder he’s been invited by one of the UK’s most forward thinking labels – Joy Orbison owned Doldrums – to head up their return to Plan B.  The eclectic lineup also includes  new signing Braiden, as well as  Krystal Klear and Nookie, all on the brink of brand new releases.
